Members should enter the building by following the canopy into the main entrance. Follow the hallway straight back to the Lab and turn left. Follow this hallway to the 2nd bank of elevators and down to the Lower Level. Classroom 2 is the center room in back of the Medical Auditorium.

Program: Knowledge Café *Bring topics you would like to discuss with your colleagues, or choose from our list. We will pick a few by consensus so we can share solutions and opportunities that can be taken back to our institutions.

The Michigan Health Sciences Libraries Association (MHSLA) is pleased to offer three scholarships for the upcoming Midwest MLA/MHSLA Fall Conference.

--Member scholarship (1) -- Applicant must be a member of MHSLA who has never attended the MHSLA annual conference before.
--Student scholarship (2) -- Applicants must be students at either Wayne State University or the University of Michigan in the Library and Information Science program. Preference will be given to students interested in health science librarianship.

The scholarship includes a full conference registration, including 1 CE course, meetings, lodging, meals, and mileage. Scholarship awardees are expected to write a brief summary of their conference experience for MHSLA and assist at the registration/hospitality desk.

Yesterday the 2008 Salary and Benefits Survey forms were mailed to those MDMLG members who manage hospital libraries in the Metro Detroit area. As in the past, the survey solicits information on professional and para-professional positions in hospital libraries.

Only 28 survey forms were sent out this year as the number of MDMLG-affiliated hospital libraries has decreased (30 forms were sent in 2006 & 36 forms in 2004). More than ever, full participation is vital to the success of the survey. Past needs assessment data have shown that our survey results assist managers in getting needed salary adjustments for themselves and staff.

Please return your completed forms to the Henry Ford Sladen Library by June 30. Thank you in advance for your participation!

It is with great pleasure I announce this year's recipient of the MDMLG Annual Scholarship Award.

The MDMLG Student Award is presented to a student enrolled in the Library Information Science Program at Wayne State University who displays an interest in health sciences and/or are enrolled in the LISP Health Science Program.

This award encourages students to consider the health sciences courses offered at WSU and provides a full, one year membership to MDMLG, including subscription to the newsletter and an invitation to the yearly banquet, an award certificate, the recipient's name on a plaque displayed in the LISP department, and a monetary award.

The award will be presented at Wayne State University in May.

MDMLG was planning on sponsoring the MLA Webcast last week entitled "Web 2.0 Principles and Best Practices: Discovering the Participatory Web" at Wayne State University. However, due to the inclement weather, Wayne State was closed.

MLA has provided us with 30 days of "on demand" viewing to those organizations who broadcast the webcast. In addition, you can download and print a PDF copy of the Participant's Manual.

If you are an MDMLG member, but don't have your email address included in the Directory, you will receive the new password via snail mail.

If you are not an MDMLG member, it's not too late to send in your membership application so you can access the MDMLG Directory, Minutes, Treasurer's Report, etc. Once I receive confirmation that you have renewed, I'll send you the new members-only password.

Hello,
This is just a quick note to let you know that the new MDMLG Brochure is now available. The print copy has been produced in colour, is duplexed and has a perforation so that people can easily submit the brochure via postal mail. A copy of the brochure is available on the MDMLG web site via http://www.mdmlg.org/MDMLG%20Brochure.doc as well as can be found navigating the Site Index.

This brochure will now be used to publicize MDMLG at local conferences and other venues such as the WSU LIS program. An example of its use will be its distribution at the upcoming MHSLA conference :)

If you would like copies of the brochure to distribute at a particular event, please let me know and I would be more than happy to assist you in any way possible.

MLC has just announced that it will be launching a new wiki next week geared towards providing "a useful library wiki for Michigan library staff from all types of libraries." A quick perusal of the wiki shows a lack of special library content. The good news is that content can be added by "Anyone who is able to contribute relevant information specifically related to Michigan libraries...". I'd like to encourage all MDMLG members to consider contributing content relevant to MDMLG and medical libraries.

First I would like to say that I am excited to participate as the new Public Relations Chair for MDMLG!

In preparation of the upcoming MHSLA conference, I would like to highlight the accomplishments of the membership over the past couple of years. If you have received AHIP certification, have published an article, presented a poster or CE at a conference, please let me know as I would like to incorporate this into the MDMLG poster that will be displayed at the MHSLA conference. For the various articles, workshops, or panel discussions that have been conducted, please provide the date, meeting title and name of your presentation.

I would be happy to create a publication list going back to 2004 so please send me your accomplishments!
