Ovid SP Training Classes

There is still some space in both the morning and afternoon sessions for the upcoming OVID SP training at Wayne State on March 6, 2008. Email Toni Janik at tjanik@hdgh.org to reserve your seat.

Thanks to Anne Gervais of OVID, who has sent me word that OVID will be providing lunch for both the Morning and Afternoon registrants in the Community Room, 3rd floor, Undergraduate Library from Noon - 1PM. A great opportunity to network with your colleagues and enjoy lunch before/after the training session.

Syllabus: 3.5 contact hour course description:

In the Ovid Applications training class attendees will have learned the features of the OvidSP search software, the underlying principles of a natural language processing relevancy ranked search, to use Search Aids, to use Advanced Ovid Search to truncate search concepts and create searches using Boolean operators, apply limits to searches, search individual fields, to remove duplicates from multifile searches, to create a Table of Content and a current awareness search topic alert, to find cited articles, to use Personal Accounts, to annotate records, to print, save, email, use direct export and create jumpstarts to manage output of results and to use database specific features in biomedical bibliographic, journal full text and electronic book databases such as mapping to MeSH headings, exploding and focusing in MEDLINE and linking to, searching and browsing full text articles. The class is instructor-led and when available hands-on.

Ovid SP Training Sessions

MDMLG Professional Development Committee and Wayne State University have invited Anne Gervais from OVID to provide us with 2 hands-on training sessions on Thursday, March 6 from 8:30 a.m. - Noon and 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. These 2 sessions are identical and will allow more of our members to attend who can only get away for a half day. Each session can accommodate a maximum of 25 people.

These sessions will be held in the Wayne State University Undergraduate Library Computer Lab C.

This class will cover OVID's new interface and you will earn 3.5 MLA CE credits. This session is free of charge. A more detailed syllabus of what will be covered will be posted here shortly.
