MDMLG Award for Wayne State LISP Students in the Health Sciences


Proposal:

To promote health sciences librarianship through an award offered to LIS students excelling in health sciences courses in the Library and Information Science Program at Wayne State University.

Award Description:

  • An award plaque with engravable nameplates supplied by MDMLG (to remain at WSU and be displayed in the LIS department)
  • An award certificate
  • A cash award of up to $200.00 (exact award to be determined on a yearly basis)
  • One year membership to MDMLG including a subscription to the MDMLG Newsletter
  • The recipient will be invited to attend the Annual Summer Program meeting and luncheon

Award Criteria:

  • Awarded to a student excelling in the health sciences curriculum in the Library and Information Science Program at Wayne State University.
  • Must be a student demonstrating enthusiasm for a career in the health sciences discipline of librarianship.
  • Students must apply for the award, submitting an application form, including a paragraph explaining either their career goals or why specialization of library and information sciences skills is important in the health sciences field of librarianship.
  • Award recipient to be determined by WSU LISP faculty and MDMLG Board.

Conditions:

  • One award to be given per academic year.
  • Award to be presented once a year at the May awards ceremony for the LIS program.
  • Award to be presented by the MDMLG President or representative in conjunction with WSU LISP Health Sciences Faculty member
  • Award can only be received by a recipient once.
  • Student must be officially enrolled in the Library and Information Science Program. Student may be at any level in his/her education.
  • Recipient must be in good academic standing.

MDMLG Responsibilities:

  • The MDMLG Board shall decide at the beginning of each financial year how much money will be awarded for the MDMLG Health Sciences Award (not to exceed $200.00) The Board must also take into consideration the cost to engrave the plaque.
  • The MDMLG Board shall have final decision for the award recipient on advice from WSU LISP Health Sciences Faculty member This shall be decided at the Board meeting immediately preceding the May LIS awards ceremony at WSU.
  • The due date for the applications will March 1, 2007.
  • Applications can be submitted electronically, faxed or sent in hard copy to MDMLG President
  • The President of MDMLG will send copies of all applications to the Board members 5 days before the Board meeting.
